 Our surveyor spots a unique tree. The mature pine is nearly 100 feet tall, and now at the end of its life cycle, growth has stopped. He marks it for harvest, beginning a careful process that will result in a very special floor.

 Grain
The loblolly Arkansas pine, pinus taeda, is cultivated on plantations throughout the South, yielding a stable and strong timber. In select older trees, the heartwood oxidizes and darkens to form spectacular red waves sweeping through amber. We examine each piece of raw lumber as it is cut from the tree, selecting for grain, color and quality.

 Richmond Red Heart Pine
Deep in a generations-old pine forest, an expert surveyor marks a unique tree nearly 100 feet tall. The tree’s long life has ended and it will be harvested before decay sets in. With age, the heartwood in select trees oxidizes to form spectacular red waves sweeping through amber, creating a flooring with spectacular beauty. The shortleaf Arkansas pine, pinus echinata, yields a stable and strong timber. Sharing characteristics of antique heart pine, Richmond Red Heart Pine gives a unique, authentic American plank floor with traditional character, color and grain.
Select cut and graded heartwood. Grain swirls from vertical grain pin stripes to character knots, color from pink to purple against light tan to amber. Develops deep, rich patina with the grayed brown tones of antique heart pine. Natural smooth face, solid ¾" tongue and groove end matched plank flooring, Exact Dry. 5" and 6-¾" planks delivered in nested pallets.
